At 22 years old, I married the 70-year-old widow of the richest Arab in the country to escape poverty. I was certain I could stick it out by her side for a few years and then become a wealthy man. But on our very first wedding night, what she did truly ‘hurt’ me. – Cute Info

The majority of her assets were held in trusts and other arrangements established during her late husband’s lifetime. Under the terms of those arrangements, much of the wealth was destined for a charitable foundation, with specific provisions protecting the interests of existing beneficiaries.

My marriage did not give me automatic ownership of those assets.

My inheritance, if any, would depend on the applicable legal arrangements and the terms of her estate.

I looked up at her.

“But your lawyer said I wouldn’t be left without support.”

“He said exactly what I authorized him to say.”

“Then what does that mean?”

“It means you may receive a modest monthly allowance, provided you meet the conditions set out in the agreement. It does not mean you will become the owner of my fortune.”

I stared at her.

“How much?”

“Enough to live comfortably if you behave responsibly. Not enough to make you a millionaire.”
