His mouth opened to offer another excuse, but no words came out, which was easily the most honest thing he had done all evening. A waiter stepped into the doorway to check on our table, instantly sensed the icy atmosphere in the room, and retreated back into the hallway without saying a word.
“This is a private personal matter,” Hunter whispered, leaning closer across the table.
“No, it is not private,” Nadia corrected him instantly. “This is entirely relevant to the commercial transaction.”
Hunter snapped his head toward her. “You have absolutely no idea what you are interfering with right now!”
“I have an exceptionally clear understanding of the situation,” Nadia responded calmly. “And I strongly advise you not to threaten legal counsel in a room full of witnesses.”
My father folded his hands on the table and looked directly at my husband. “You deliberately used my daughter’s name, her trust, and your marriage as leverage to secure corporate capital. You represented marital stability as a business advantage while secretly planning to abandon her the moment the money transferred, which creates massive legal exposure for you.”
“Legal exposure?” Hunter repeated, sounding as if the term belonged to a completely different person.
