A Stranger Told Me to Hide My Face in His Jacket During the Flight

I couldn’t take my eyes off the screen.

“Why is my husband in your system?”

Noah didn’t answer immediately.

“What’s his name?”

“Ryan.”

“Full name.”

I told him.

Noah typed it into the computer.

The screen filled with documents.

I felt sick.

There were photographs of Ryan.

Bank transfers.

Travel records.

Messages.

And then I saw something that made my heart stop.

A photograph of Lily.

Taken two months before she was born.

“How?”

My voice barely came out.

Noah stared at the photograph.

“That means they were watching you before you even knew about them.”

I stepped backward.

“Why would anyone care about my daughter?”

“I don’t know.”

“You keep saying that.”

“Because I’m not going to lie to you.”

He opened another file.

This one was encrypted.

Only one line was visible.

SUBJECT L-17 MUST REMAIN ALIVE.

I looked at him.

“What does that mean?”

Noah’s face hardened.

“I don’t know yet.”

Suddenly, the lights went out.

Lily started crying.

Noah immediately pulled a weapon from inside his jacket.

“Stay down.”

“What is happening?”

“Someone just cut the power.”

A loud crash came from the back of the house.

Noah moved toward the hallway.

Then he stopped.

He looked at me.

“Take Lily.”

“Where?”

“There’s a hidden door behind the bookshelf.”

I grabbed Lily.

My hands were shaking so badly I could barely hold her.

Noah whispered:

“Whatever happens, don’t open that door until I tell you.”

Then he disappeared into the darkness.
