“Oh, sweetheart! You feel warm.”
“That’s because you’re touching my forehead with your coffee hand.”
She pulled back.
“Honestly, Kevin!”
Kai laughed.
“He’s fine. He’s always been dramatic.”
I looked at him.
“And you’re always right. It’s exhausting being surrounded by perfection.”
Dad chuckled.
Molly didn’t.
She stared at me with an expression I couldn’t quite read.
“I’m going home,” I said. “You should all enjoy the rest of the weekend.”
Molly stood immediately.
“I’ll come with you.”
“No need. Stay here.”
“Kevin, I can pack in five minutes.”
I looked at her.
“Stay.”
She blinked.
“Are you sure?”
“Completely.”
Kai leaned back in his chair.
“Always leaving before the fun starts, Kevin.”
I picked up my keys.
“Enjoy your announcement.”
His smile disappeared.
Only for a second.
But it disappeared.
I walked outside without another word.
Molly followed me to the car.
“Kevin, wait!”
I stopped beside the driver’s door.
