“I was trying to get her to understand. You said Vanessa would leave if she believed Roy had another woman.”
“Believe it, yes! You were supposed to make her suspicious, not walk into her office and announce that you were carrying his child!”
My heart began pounding.
I pulled out my phone and started recording.
Tessa spoke again.
“I’m tired of pretending. You promised you’d help me.”
“And I have helped you! I’ve paid your rent. I’ve bought your groceries. I told you I’d help with the baby until you got back on your feet. But that doesn’t mean you get to ruin everything because you can’t follow simple instructions.”
I pressed myself against the wall.
Then Margaret said something that made my blood run cold.
“If Vanessa had pushed for a paternity test, the whole plan would have collapsed. Roy would have discovered everything, and I’d have lost my chance to get him away from her.”
