Now someone had confirmed what she had known in her heart.
She had done the right thing.
And she had been punished for it.
The investigator gave her a moment before continuing.
“Your termination is being reviewed separately. We are also examining the statements made about your performance and the reasons recorded for your dismissal.”
“Can they correct my record?”
“If the evidence supports it, yes.”
Clara breathed out slowly.
It wasn’t a job offer. It wasn’t a guarantee that her debts would disappear.
But it was the beginning of a correction.
Over the following weeks, the company withdrew the disputed performance assessment and amended her employment record. The independent review concluded that her dismissal had been improperly justified and closely connected to her reporting of suspicious transactions.
Clara received a formal apology.
She also received an offer to interview for a new position within Mercer Capital’s financial integrity division.
