For decades, Tim Curry was one of those actors whose voice could make people stop and listen.

Whether he was playing a mysterious villain, a flamboyant stage character, a sinister clown, or simply lending his voice to an animated character, there was something instantly recognizable about him.

But one of the most interesting parts of his career began with a character that, at first, seemed like an enormous risk.
